Influence and Appreciation

My Dad showed me the small steps for years, and it is the foundation I pride myself on. The small steps of Love, respect, and patience; I can get all things with that. I can also destroy things without that need to start by appreciating yourself and where you are right now; then tell others how they have influenced you. Don't wait for a holiday; tell them every day. It is also crucial to enjoy the journey; embrace it, trust it, and you will see the life you have always imagined come to fruition.
The Small Steps
  • I became a patient man once I began to appreciate who I was, and that starts with you as well. You can't have love respect and patience if you don't appreciate where you are at now. Finding appreciation can be difficult if there is a constant comparison to others; we see the top producers and wonder how we can get there.
  • Getting there for them took years, years of mistakes, and course correction. The small steps that sometimes can feel meaningless. My Dad showed me those small steps for years, and it is the foundation I pride myself on. Love, respect, and patience; I can get all things with that. I can also destroy things without that.
  • Your success relies on your foundation of how you handle yourself and understanding that you are continually being influenced. The influence that is always attacking or complementing those Core Four characteristics. We need to identify those that are attacking those values; whether it is friends that we associate with, that don't share in our values and work ethic and inviting those that do into our lives.
  • Influence in all around us and this weekend we had the opportunity to spend time with the Luna's. There was a lot of appreciation there, because of the love, respect, and patience they show each other. It is similar to how Carla and I are with each other consistently. We have also been part of their not great times, and they have been there for some of ours. The influence at those times that I had on Ruben wasn't the greatest. It was about drive, ambition, and money.
  • We both suffered consequences for that in our marriages. It was an influence that changed the dynamic of our families, and it's the influence that is changing the dynamic of your life. Where were you six months ago? A year ago or before you joined A.Z. & Associates? That is where you will find the fuel to keep going, not subjecting yourself to a comparison that will destroy your momentum.
  • You need to lay a foundation of what it means to keep the fire going; you need to show love to yourself and not beat yourself up consistently for not getting the results that you want. I can appreciate the foundation my Dad gave me now, but I couldn't back then. That was the most significant influence he ever had on me.
  • What if we appreciated people and what they do for us, on an everyday basis and not on a specific holiday? What do you think that will do for you? When you can do that it is because you have an appreciation for yourself and the path that you are on. Where you are at right now is temporary, and you have to appreciate the process of where you are going.
Boi: The Chako Whisperer
  • It's amazing the lessons that we can find in realizing that influence is all around us. Our new puppy, Chako, is being influenced by our older dog, Boi. The time it takes to learn to do things is collapsed because of the influence Boi has on him. He is crate trained, and Boi comes out he is, and he always greets me. The first time I let Chako out he didn't know what to do, but he observed Boi and his behavior, and he slowly started to do the same thing.
  • Boi has influenced Chako to do the same things, including habits I hoped he wouldn't pick up. I appreciate how fast he is learning, though, and that is the impact we all have.
  • Today I want you to think about a few things; first and foremost start appreciating yourself more. Nothing will improve if there isn't that appreciation. Secondly, appreciate those around you and let them know; don't wait until Fathers Day or Mothers Day. My Dad needed to hear my words of appreciation; he is compassionate and has a big heart, and I was missing that in myself. When we have a big heart, we can create big things, appreciate yourself where you are, and identify the growth pattern. You are not the same person from six months ago unless you sabotaged yourself.
  • Finally, appreciate the journey because things will not always be this way. If they are good than great, continue to build on that. If deals are falling through, it's okay, learn the lessons there. There is skin to build thickness on and capacity to grow. The skillsets you are learning from this painful moment are going to help you later in life.
  • Your scars build you and make you strong; I won't stop, and nothing can stop me. I have a firm foundation because of the influence my Dad had on me. How are you influencing your kids? How are those around you influencing you? We can all slip into a place of trying to control the ones we love the most; that was a characteristic of my Mom.
  • Sometimes we are in such a place of control; it doesn't allow others to flourish in their space. When they do, we find fault because it wasn't done the way we wanted. I saw that growing up and then mimicked that in my relationships and my marriage. Wanting certain things but when it was done, it wasn't my way, so it was wrong. How many times have we done that?
  • A true leader is patient, patient with loved ones, the loan officer, the title person, and clients. Start appreciating yourself, others, and your journey. The small steps you are taking will pay off in big dividends. You are on a trajectory that you aren't even aware of. Some of you are overcoming stories of defeat; some have quits jobs they thought they never could; some are building on your best year ever.
  • How can patience help the overall growth of your business? When you are in a good place, there is no way you can't build your business. When someone tells me I am a patient man, I am thankful; it doesn't floor me anymore because I have created that space to handle things. We all have work to do, but it starts with you; start with appreciating where you are. Quit comparing yourself to others. Tell people how they have influenced and impacted you every day. Look at this journey and imagine where you will be in two years, in five years. It will be more than you ever anticipated.
  • I could never imagine where my life is now; my marriage works, my business works, my body functions for me. I didn't know that was a possibility; right now, you can't see it but trust the process, and you will.
