How to Lose On Social Media

CUSTOM JAVASCRIPT / HTML
There is a person out there in Social Media waiting to pounce. You aren't sure where they are coming from, but they are ready to question everything you do and post. What is triggering them? A strangers conviction can drive you to a place of complacency. They doubt themselves and their marketing, so they try to make you question what is working for you. Don't engage in the opinions of others. It will suck your energy and your focus; you don't have time for pointless arguments, so hit the block button and move forward with what you have proven to work.
Seeing Beyond Resistance
  • One of the things I love about Social Media is how it allows us to connect with family and friends. It also gives us the ability to see greater possibilities for ourselves; we see what others are doing, and it can motivate us to do the same. There are downsides to Social Media as well; the comparison game.
  • Social Media arguments are something you can never win. I have seen plenty of them through my marketing that I spend thousands of dollars per month on. I have noticed that people are quick to give their opinions, and sometimes they are not kind and straightforward about it.
  • For a long time, I used to get caught up in defending myself; it was my ego speaking. When we defend ourselves, it is our ego at work, wanting to prove them wrong. What eventually happens is we waste hours arguing with people we don't even know.
  • I don't get a lot of resistance from people who know, like, and trust me because we are usually on the same page. As you become a better marketer and begin to expose yourself, you will run into this more often.
  • 15 to 20% of all adults and 25% of all teens engage in some interactions that end friendships. We have all been scrolling on Facebook and notice a topic, and 100+ comments are going back and forth of people trying to assert their position. You begin to see people's true colors, only to realize those who you thought were like-minded are on a separate path than you.
  • Everyone has the right to voice their opinion, but it's what you allow to happen when that occurs. I recently put an ad up on A.Z.& Associates, and I was being recorded in my car by one of my media people. It was a good topic, if you listened to the content, seeing beyond the fact that I am driving while being recorded.
  • I was speaking from the aspect of an entrepreneur, which is what I consider myself. I have faced my fair share of disappointments and failures, but I have learned from it. What ends up happening is you run into those individuals that have something to say. Another local Realtor ended up saying something to the effect of was I too busy to record a proper video; what is it with all of these people recording from their cars.
  • My first instinct was to bash this guy because of his audacity to try to school me on marketing; he has no idea of my journey. The reality was that he had no idea, so why was I going to take the time to bash him? I have been down this path before and have found myself arguing with someone I didn't need to waste my time on.
  • These people are often strangers to you and don't deserve your time or energy. I don't know his story, his insecurities, or his journey. Any time we get triggered to say something, it because there is already a history of realizing there are some changes that need to be made. He didn't start with my post; something before that triggered him.
  • Somewhere along the line, he has discovered he needs to grow his business. His solution is to be a better marketer and maybe realizes he needs to record more videos. Trainers, coaches, and mentors all say how important videos are.
  • This isn't so simple for someone who isn't used to doing it. This leads to trying to find ways to not do it, instead of finding ways to pull it off. Now he is stuck in the comparison game and sees me and gets triggered. Most people get inspired by seeing something that someone else is doing.
Don't Engage
  • This person saw me recording in the car and probably thought to himself that was blasphemous, and he couldn't do that. It triggered his insecurity and unwillingness to move forward. His comment had nothing to do with me, and everything to do with his insecurities.
  • Videos aren't the easiest thing to do, especially as you begin to share more of your personal life. Out of insecurity came his opinion, an opinion about me. Your job now is to remove yourself from the disagreement, because it will suck your energy and make you second guess yourself.
  • The comments can be direct or indirect when individuals tell you that you are posting too much. You are consistent in your execution, and they are not. They would rather vent their opinion on you, so they can prove they are correctly viewing you, and your way is incorrect. A lot of you fall into the trap of believing their opinion.
  • You begin to slow the trajectory of your marketing and the consistency of it. This is the resistance caused by someone trying to get you to stop your progression. If you fall into it, that is your fault. Our job is to be more aware and not sucked into these arguments online.
  • I could have easily been sucked into this, and my business is swelling with abundance. I am doing everything right, and his opinion has nothing to do with me. The moment I listen to the resistance and conform to other opinions, I will be taking a step towards my destruction.
  • I am going to continue to be deliberate and consistent and do what works. This is your business and the money you are investing. My response to this person when he asked if I was too busy to record a video somewhere else? I said, "Yes."
  • I could have easily escalated the conversation, and it would only have sucked my energy. A real player doesn't have time for it, because they are focused on their business, and minding their own business.
  • REASONS TO NOT ENGAGE IN ONLINE ARGUMENTS
  • 1. It is pointless, and you will never win. You don't know who the person is or what their history is. Let them rant on and like or ignore their post and move on. Block them if you need too. Be the authentic you, and if people block you, that is okay also.
  • 2. It can escalate quickly; You don't know how much time this other person has to argue. They might be a keyword warrior, and that is all they do all day. Choose to ignore and not defend your ego. It is merely a spectacle for others.
  • 3. It sucks your energy. It will bleed into other areas of your life all to prove yourself right. We only have a limited amount of energy we can exude each day and how we use it will determine our success. We already have the stress every day with our family and business; we don't need to bring on more. When you do, it doesn't create more production; it debilitates you. We everything you have to do with marketing, sales and delivering for your clients, and the stress of your home life; why add more on top of it?
  • Protect your sanity and your ability to produce at a high level. Real players don't engage in games; they don't line up with what you are trying to accomplish. You don't have time to respond to people who you are triggering with your actions. They are already feeling the pressure; it was already historically there.
  • No one knows what you have done to get what you have. Why engage? It's pointless. Protect your energy and your sanity and go out and produce at a high level.
