When Opportunity Knocks

Life sometimes requires you to be on the bench. Use those times to reassess your skillset, your actions, and then take the appropriate measures to align yourself with your production targets. Seeing yourself on the court in the game will give you the confidence to face your Goliaths. You don't have to accept your current role as an average agent; why not become the best? It's a new level, it's a new game, and it's time for you to lean in.
Reinventing Yourself?
  • Will you be ready when opportunity knocks? The thoughts that are going through my mind about reinventing yourself are intense. The concept sounds easy; if you want to be a successful business owner, become that. The person we were, the people around us, and our experiences determine where we will be at.
  • I learned a valuable lesson this weekend from the movie "Joker." It is a dark example, but it ties into every one of us. This man wasn't content where he was at, and the more he thought about his situation, the darker things got. At a point in the movie, he realized he could be this other person, everything changed. It was a dark moment for him that changed things for him.
  • We have to believe first and foremost that we can become the business owner we want to be. We set 90-day targets to get you into a mindset of knowing you can produce more. Those of you that see that at the forefront of possibilities can see that when it comes to your production numbers, lifestyle, health, and marriage.
  • If you halfway believe it, you are only focused on what is happening right now in your life; lack of money, not enough leads, shakey home life, etc. The more we focus there, nothing changes. If you want to reach a new level in all areas, it will require you to reinvent yourself. It is going to push you into very uncomfortable areas.
  • There is a quote from Robert Greene and his book entitled,"48 Laws of Power." It says,"" Do not accept the roles society forces on you; recreate yourself by forging a new identity, one that commands attention and never bores the audience. Be the master of your image rather than letting others define it for you. Incorporate dramatic devices into your public gesture and actions; your power will be enhanced, and your character will seem larger than life."
  • This is, in a way permitting yourself; Our entire lives, we have been molded in a certain way to conform to what others will accept you as. When you stop out of your norm, it will be uncomfortable; that is the process of reinventing yourself and the only way to separate yourself from the masses.
  • You have to proclaim that you will be different moving forward. I focused on changing myself by creating a new identity, one that commands attention and never bores the audience; just as the quote said. Once I harnessed the power I had, and my identity ever aspect of my life began to elevate to a new level. When the character in Joker embraced his crazy side, he created happiness for himself. It is a dark example, but you need to lean into who you are without thinking you have to conform to what others expect.
  • My beard, and now my tattoos, add to my story of creating a new identity. This is why my life is becoming powerful because I am leaning into my identity, into the person I know I am. Some of you are holding back and are unable to fully flourish because you are still living within other people's parameters. It'sIt's a powerful way to live when you can convey what you think, and believe what you are speaking; it will draw others to you.
  • Getting to this place and embracing it is a new level. The real challenges my daughter is facing after making the Varsity Volleyball team as a Freshman, have come long after the day she made the team. She is at a new level, and her opponents are stronger, taller, more powerful, and experienced. All of the ambition and excitement has turned into nervousness and doubt. Can she play at this level? Can she continue to develop her skill set to compete at this level? She was in her head, and some of you are in the same place as you attempt to reinvent yourself.
  • The new levels and targets you are setting for yourself as an agent, have entirely transformed your financial situation. At this level, it takes more challenges, a better business person, better marketing, and systems and processes to maintain it. Some of you are content to stick with two sales per month because increasing to three or four will require more of you, and that can be scary. When you try and try without new results, it can be discouraging.
Face Your Goliath
  • My daughter, Abigail, couldn't get any playing time, and it's been tough for her. She is used to competing at a high level with people in her age group; now, she is playing with girls at 14 years old who are turning 18 this year. She was unassuming, and maybe that is how people see you; a non-threat. When you reinvent yourself, and you can market loudly, unapologetically, confident in your skill sets, you will be taking someone else's market share.
  • Abigail is very unassuming at only five foot five and a bit over 100 pounds; she is fast and athletic, but there is nothing physical about her that separates her at first glance. She could stay in that role, the way society sees her, or she could proclaim who she is. She could believe in herself and has had some dark moments during the reinvention process.
  • When you reinvent yourself, you don't proclaim it one day and have it happen immediately. There is a process of reps, honing in on your skillset, mindset, systems, and processes; that lead to the metamorphosis. Or, you can accept your role as an average agent. Abigail could have accepted her role as a bench warmer, being content that she is at least on the Varsity team. She knows that she is better than that and has put in too much to be a benchwarmer.
  • To be content as an average agent, after all, you have sacrificed, all the pressure to be average. You can accept it, or you can understand that it is only a matter of time before the opportunity presents itself; when it does, you will be ready to strike and strike hard. It's hard to watch my daughter not get any time on the court and still be able to give her the wisdom and encouragement; when all she did was sit on the bench.
  • As an agent, when you struggle financially, and you come to me saying that nothing is working, it's hard for me to hear. It is hard for me to make you believe that it's only a matter of time if you continue to put in the work. All I could do for my daughter was encourage and remind her of how great she it. If she wants to become this player, she has to reinvent herself, proclaim and see herself greater than how others are seeing her.
  • You refuse to take a stand for yourself, and others, including your family, see you as unassuming. No one sees you as a threat because you lack follow through on the things you say you will do. My daughter didn't sit on the bench consumed in dark thoughts, she battled those thoughts and is working hard; she sees herself in that place, on the court.
  • What is beyond you only making a living in Real Estate? Prosperity, happiness, fulfillment? Abigail started playing harder during practice, asking the right questions of how she could improve; and then she did it. She sits on the bench and cheers on her team. If you aren't getting the results right now, you need to cheer on those that are. They were probably where you were, not knowing how to grow their business, expand, and scale it; they found a way. Don't let the competition damage your success while you are focused on what they have. Let it serve as inspiration, or else it will be the detriment of your business.
  • Abigail could have been lost in jealousy and entitlement; she instead focused on herself and realized what it would take to get out on the court. It's a new level, and she cannot be the same person if she wants to be out on the court; it isn't good enough, but she is working hard. She can see herself on the court, being able to pass the ball to the girls that are over six feet tall, without being scared.
  • The competition was much greater than she anticipated. It may be harder, but that doesn't mean you wish for it to be easier. You must get better, and Abigail got better because her skill set was always there; she needed to get her mind aligned also. To get better, you need to make only a small adjustment, a slight tweak.
  • During a big Nike Tournament this weekend, Abigail started all games. She killed it, and I am so proud of that little girl. All she was lacking was confidence when she entered that new level; she forgot how great she is and the work she has put in. Once she aligned her confidence with her skill set, it was unbelievable to witness.
  • There was a big girl on the other team, and watching her face Abigail was like watching David and Goliath. Abigail didn't waiver, wasn't intimidated because she honed into who she was. I need you to do the same thing and remind yourself about all of the reps you have put in. It is time to get to the next level and not be afraid to ask or lean in, understand your value to your team; it is your responsibility to ask for referrals, do the Open Houses and ask for contact information.
  • When opportunity knocked, when Abigail was put into the game, she was ready, and she delivered. Are your thoughts focused on what you don't have vs the work that needs to be done? If you are focused on a lack of money and leads; you will get more of them. If you understand that while it seems you are on the bench, you are still in the game. You have a responsibility to grow your business and not only a way to make a living, but a way of life.
  • How will you reinvent yourself? What will you proclaim? How will you become a real player in the game of Real Estate? It will require you stepping out of your comfort zone and face more pain before you realize the fruits. This is where you need to lean in; you are greater than this and not just a bench warmer or an average agent.
  • It may require you being on the bench to reassess your skillset, your actions, and take the appropriate measures to align yourself with your production targets. See yourself on the court, see yourself in the game. You don't have to accept your current role as an average agent; why not become the best? It's a new level, it's a new game, and it's time for you to lean in.
