Paralyzed by Success

There is a turning point for everyone in their life. Whether it is a football game, your marriage, or business. Turning points define the pivotal moment where we propel forward or stand dead in our tracks. It is the daily deposits, the faith and trust in yourself that will get you the win. Remember that a step backward isn't a failure but an opportunity to see your challenge from a different perspective. Will you make a hail mary pass or get sacked? It is entirely up to you.
Turning Point
  • We had some technical difficulties this morning. When things don't turn out like we hoped they would, it can take us off our game. It can trigger us for inaction because we had our mindset on how things were supposed to go. I know what I am supposed to do as soon as the camera goes on. When we come with all of this energy towards something, and it doesn't work out, it's what we do afterward that matters.
  • Getting our mindset back into the game, and this happens in sports, real estate, and business owners; What do we do when things don't go on as planned? This can happen at times with Buyers, and the inspection doesn't go through, or you find them the right house, and you get beat out on another offer. It can be devastating to not only you but to your client; there is still a game plan and a target you must hit.
  • My target is to complete this Mindset Mastery for you to have the fuel and the fire for you to proceed and do what you might have thought was an option, but now is a priority to move forward. I saw this in last week's Super Bowl; when things don't go our way, it is easy to concede to the circumstance. It is easy to say maybe next year, next month or another time it will maybe work out my way.
  • I was watching a documentary from NFL Films, called “Turning Point.” It ties into real estate and small business ownership. In this documentary, they didn't focus on what happened through the entire Super Bowl but focused on one turning point in the Super Bowl. It was in the third quarter, and the Kansas City Chiefs were down 10 points. It showcased how things could have gone the other way. It was the crossroads for the Kansas City Chiefs to persevere and win the Super Bowl or concede to a formidable opponent, the San Francisco 49’ers.
  • Here they are, third quarter and they run a play on second and 15. They need 15 yards to get that first down. Mahomes throws a ball to the receiver, and it looks like he got the first down. They rush to the starting line, and it turns out the ball hit the ground first. The 49’ers challenged it, and now their back was against the wall. They have one more play because they weren't going to run on the fourth down; they still had a whole quarter remaining. It is now third and fifteen, and this is where the entire film focused on Mahomes and what happened next.
  • His back was against the wall, and he didn't ask to be saved; I love that about this. They were showcasing Mahomes on the sideline, suggesting what to do next. That is the blood of a leader. Things don't go your way, and the team has to go back to the line of scrimmage, achieve the first down at third and fifteen.
  • Mahomes suggested they run a specific play, the coach called upstairs and recommended it. It was a risky play that required Mahome to go back a few yards to buy him time. The 49’ers are aggressive and have one of the best pass rushers to attempt to sack Mahomes. He will have to hold onto the ball for 4 or 5 seconds, which is a long time when it comes to professional sports.
  • I loved that he believed in himself and his teammates enough to suggest that play. They ran the play, and Mahomes had to run back 15 yards from the line of scrimmage to buy time. He launched the ball 57 yards to the receiver who was lying in wait. Not only did they get the first down, but it changed the momentum of the entire game. The momentum shifted, and it was now his; the confidence of the team went through the roof.
  • We don't allow ourselves to go back a few steps, because we think we are losing from that point. We don't realize that we are stepping back to get a new perspective and allow time to take its course. Mahomes needed one or two more seconds, and maybe you only need one or two more weeks before things begin to turn around.
Stop Asking Permission
  • We are almost four weeks removed from our Sales Meeting, our Ignite Event, and so many people came to me and proclaimed that this was their year. They saw themselves up on that stage and knew exactly what they needed to do. They know how they are going to sell ten million and twenty million.
  • What ends up happening? You get called back, and you lose your momentum. Instead of questioning what you need to do next, many are looking for a savior. This happens more often than not. People start to question themselves and fail to realize that to get the next ten million, begins with getting your first one million.
  • When we don't get the results that we want after setting a high goal, instead of taking it upon ourselves and calling our own play to the coach, we revert to our lowest form of habit and ask what we should do next. Somebody needs to save me, and this other brokerage can save me. This other team promised leads so that they can save me.
  • A true leader asks himself what he will do next, not ask for permission to do it. They ask themselves for a better perspective. We have to look back at our decisions and goals. It doesn't mean it's not going to turn out the way we want because the last three weeks have not gone our way. Your job is to stay consistent with what works, trusting yourself, and the process.
  • When you fail to do that, you will succumb to the thoughts that someone else has it figured out for you. You will lose focus and begin to focus on how others can figure it out for us. It is so easy to succumb to the circumstances, thinking that if you step back, you will lose the clarity. You have to understand that with a step back, there is always a step forward if we decide to take it. If you aren't clear right now where your next deal is coming from, it doesn't mean that your next deal isn't coming.
  • I understand the intensity, the darkness of debt. The pressure is intense, and I understand how it feels like nothing is working out, deals are falling through, and you feel desperate. I understand all of those things, but it isn't meant for you to quit. It is intended for you to focus on what you must do today. Just like those goals and ambitions you had at the Ignite Event, they must remain with you. The path we set for any target isn't necessarily the path that will get us there. We need to make those mistakes, make the left to know we need to make a right, and then another left again.
  • This will only come to you when you stay consistent with the work and trust the process. What I loved about Mahome is he never lost faith in himself. This twenty-four-year-old kid, his mental capacity is through the roof. I am impressed because he has proven that he can persevere because he trusts himself. He could have lost faith when the score was 20-10, against one of the best defenses in the NFL. Who wouldn't think the worst? The point is to allow yourself to see a solution and let your perspective shift and change.
  • You may not be able to see yourself out of debt or where your next transaction is coming from, where you are at it impossible to see. I want you to consider that if you remain there, stuck, you will never get clarity. You must know that although it is dark, and you don't know where to step next, you continue to move forward. Maybe two steps backward will give you an entirely new perspective of what to do next.
  • A real producer can navigate and do what they can't see because they trust themselves. Walking along blindly at times, but they trust themselves. They continue to make the necessary deposits that have given them proven success, understanding that those deposits will continue to get them further along in life.
Feel the Pinch
  • I put up a simple post today with a green smoothie in my hand while driving my car. I said, “Six years with this green smoothie. Does it make me healthier? I don't know. I don't know if this one thing is giving me the vitality and energy to move forward. I do know that I am consistent with it.” That consistency bleeds into every area of my life. Although I can't see what the next steps are, I trust myself to move forward regardless if it is a mistake or not. Even in the mistakes, I realize there is a lesson that allows me to pivot, take a step back for a different perspective.
  • This consistency is what has built my life that I enjoy living. It is an amazing process, but it didn't happen overnight. I want you to consider that. Because your goals were massive, it doesn't mean someone will save you or hand it to you. You can't avoid or share the pain. You need to be able to live in it and work through it. Power through it because it is yours and yours alone.
  • The results of your actions will be rewarded if you continue the process. When we start to feel the pinch, we don't want to increase the pain, so we stop. We go another direction until we feel the pinch again. What would happen if you continue to push through it? You will build the capacity for it, and you will be able to take on more.
  • Who I am today from the guy who I was six years ago with my green smoothie. I can tolerate more, overcome more, I am wiser, stronger, smarter because of the pains. Not because everything was rainbows and sunshine the entire way. You don't learn that way, we learn through the pains, instead of embracing that we try to avoid it. We try to avoid it by having someone save us. My question is, what happened to the person I saw three weeks ago? Why did you lose faith in that person? That person, at our meeting, had everything figured out. They knew it was only a matter of time. Because things did not progress as we wanted, all of a sudden, we can't figure it out, and someone is smarter than us and will figure it out for us.
  • I need you to lean in right now, understanding that the circumstances you are in now are because of the wake of who you were and the actions you took or didn't take three to four months ago. It doesn't mean it will always be this way if you start to do the right things today. It takes time, it's a conditioning process, and it takes you trusting in that process.
  • You need to trust yourself, and I know when we don't have a track record of making great decisions, it makes it harder to trust in yourself. What if you were to change your story? Change the narrative of what it means to be you powerfully daily? Where you can suggest a play in the biggest game of your life. It truly is about changing the narrative. I refused to be told who I would become and how far I could get in life.
  • I'm the only person who can keep me from achieving what I see in my dreams. My dreams are big, and right now, we are facing some challenges. That doesn't mean I get paralyzed by the success. That vision you had, don't get paralyzed by it. The ten or fifteen million dollars you were going to sell this year is a big number, but you can't get paralyzed by it. Your entire dynamic can shift on a turning point. Wait for it, and you could completely dominate the rest of your game.
Final Thoughts
  • The Kansas City Chiefs had a turning point, and they never deviated from their game plan. You can't deviate from your marketing or shining that spotlight on yourself. That is how you will separate yourself from 48,000 other licensed agents. The competition is stiff, but the rewards are immense. A couple of deals can shift the paradigm of your business, and that will be the turning point that you need.
  • If your focus is on your debt and not being able to get the Buyers’ contract accepted, you will keep getting more of that. Your job is to continue to move. If you lost a deal for your buyer, then find another. If you couldn't secure a listing, then find another. No one is raising their hand to get pre-qualified then find someone who will; stay consistent and continue to move forward.
  • There are lessons all around us, and I need you to take a brief moment and trust yourself. Don't become paralyzed by who you want to be in 10 months. Understand that if you are pushing for the ten million mark, and if you've never hit it before, that person is greater than who you are today. There is a process there and 300 plus days to get there. If you don't have it figured out right now, doesn't mean 300 days from now you won't be able to figure it out.
  • Your job is to continue to take those steps and not take a step to the side. That will be what paralyzes you. Not taking a step at all will keep you there. Trust yourself, move forward and go back to the Ignite Event; that person who saw themselves there, that proclaimed they would get the ten million, the fifteen million, the five million. That is the person you need to become, and no one else will get you there, at least not permanently. You need to do it yourself.
  • Don't get swept up in the thoughts that our minds can sometimes put on us — the thoughts of negativity. You need to look past that and know that you have everything within you now to find your next transaction, to fix your marriage, to repair your health. This is it right here, and you need to take a stand.
  • Thank you all for being patient with us this morning as we took fifteen yards back to propel forward. I hope you got the insights today that I have. I know exactly what I need to do, and it is the same things that I have been doing daily. I trust myself, and I take the small, what can seem to be meaningless steps daily. If you do this, your life will shift. I never thought I would be in a place where my life works. It fuels the fire that burns deep within me, and it feels so good.
  • I want you to be in that place, and if you are there, then I want you to share it. Share it so others can see it and hear it. Ignite their fires by living powerfully through who you are. We are continuing to field the technical issues we are having, and if you have any feedback, I need to hear from you.
  • My job is to create an environment for you to thrive in. It is in those moments it can be a simple conversation that can shift our trajectory. You aren't here because you need to be saved, I don't hire my coaches to save me. Sometimes I need to see things differently and be reminded of what I already know. I trust myself, and we have major players here who trust themself and only need a simple reminder now and again.
  • You need to know it's on you and think about what you need to incorporate, pivot, recalibrate and recommit too. The reason it can seem so dark at times is that it is all we are focused on. Your next deal is right around the corner, the debt will be erased around the corner, and it is your job to continue to move forward.
  • It's hard, and we think as humans, we can see the end result, see where we need to go. It is the faith in ourselves that can cause our life to shift on the turn of a dime completely. We can't see the dime unless we keep going. It is incredible what we can accomplish when we build that trust in ourselves. I'm not asking you to have faith in a higher power. I am asking you to have faith in yourself. The only way to build that confidence and trust in yourself is to stick to the game plan of what must happen today.
  • This is my invitation to you. You need to sign up for our 12-weeks target book, where I will show you how to build a life of consistency. I'm not saying I've reached the pinnacle of all success, but when it comes to a combination of what my true purpose is, my connection to my family, my health, I feel as though I am elite. We can all become that when we let go of the dysfunctional behaviors that deplete that.
  • I am setting the foundation for long-term success, so let's do it together.
