Make More Money

Having the mindset of an employee is bred into everyone at a young age. Work hard, save responsibly and live through sacrifice. Stop the bullshit of thinking like an employee, wondering why you aren't successful and start embracing your role as Business Owner making boss money. When you think small, you stay small. If you are going to call yourself a Business Owner, start acting one and start letting someone else do the petty employee shit. You have more important things to do to get the results you want.
Cutting Corners and Lobby Squatting
  • I am coming to you from Denver, Colorado where I am at for our daughters Volleyball National qualifier. The best of the best are here. The competition went through the weekend, and Monday is a single elimination challenge. The whole point is not to leave early; you play your game and our flight out is this evening. You can't make the error of booking an early flight because you don't know how far your team will get in the competition.
  • Our daughter was done this morning, and now we have to kill the rest of our day waiting for our flight. Money was always at the forefront of my mind especially when things got tight for us. I wasn't thinking about how to make more money, but how to save money.
  • I started cutting back on the cable bill, let go of a few employees, everything I thought I didn't need I began to scale back on; the money wasn't coming in as fast as I thought it would. I was doing everything possible to pay my debts. Money is always at the forefront of many small business owners.
  • I think we are all trained from a young age in how to be a worker, an employee. When we go into business for ourselves, the potential to make an unlimited amount of money is right in our grasp. Case in point is that I am reaching out from my hotel room. I booked an additional night for us knowing that we wouldn't be spending the night. But the last thing I wanted to do was to stress myself out, or just wandering the streets because I didn't want to invest in another night.
  • I can't tell you how many other parents did just that. They checked out today, and they are inconvenienced and have to wander around until 5 o’clock to catch their flight all in the hopes of saving money. There is a more significant cost to you when you don't think about lowering your stress.
  • I could have saved a few hundred dollars today by checking out at 11, but my family would be stuck in the lobby or wandering the streets. That is stressful as a Dad and as a business owner. We try to take these shortcuts to save money, but I am more effective right now by investing in myself because I have a place to do my business and a place for my family to be comfortable.
Worker Bee Mentality
  • As business owners, money shouldn't be the forefront of your thought process at least not in that way. It should be about how you can lower your stress and make space for yourself. You don't need an employee, but you may need someone to clean your house, you may need someone to do your lawn. All of these little responsibilities you can invest in to make the space and have time to reinvest in your business, your marketing, and reaching out to your client base; your time is better served there.
  • There is a more significant cost to you and your business by not thinking about how to save money, and instead invest in the right people and processes so that I can create that space for myself. It's a hard mindset to break because we have been trained to be good employees since day one. Here are the realities; you are an entrepreneur; the ability for you to make unlimited funds is a real possibility for you.
  • How do you get rid of money problems? You make more money. It sounds easy, but making more money is the possibility and your number one responsibility.
  • As business owners we don't have a budget, you can make more money. I could save more money by cutting employees, but by having the right people in place to help me it creates space for me to do the things I need to do.
  • Even if you only do 2 or 3 transactions a month, invest in a transaction coordinator, invest in someone to clean your house or do the lawn, something that creates more space for you; so you don't get stuck in the “Worker Bee” mentality.
  • You are restricting yourself from growth and as a business owner by doing everything yourself. You are a Mom and Pop, and you will remain a Mom and Pop unless you get the right people there to help you. It's easy to do it all yourself, but it restricts you from spending time on your marketing which should be your number one priority.
  • It's not that I don't think about money, I do. But I know I can make more money, I am that confident in myself. You have to be that confident in yourself too. Not to restrict or sacrifice certain things for your family, and say you are going to get the things they need to lower the stress and unnecessary inconvenience knowing that you will make more money.
Nickel and Dime vs Boss Money
  • How do you make more money? When you get out of the “Savers” mindset, watching every nickel and dime, and you invest in the right people, it's only a matter of time before you get there. But every time you stop yourself from doing that you restrict yourself as a business owner, and merely become a one-person show.
  • If you have one transaction coordinator, you have a team. You have multiple people now reaching out to your client. Your client will see that and knows you are on top of it. The reality is we are in a unique business where you can hire a transaction coordinator as your employee. Most transaction coordinators don't get paid if the deal doesn't close; try doing that with an hourly employee. If you get paid, they get paid, and it is about seeing yourself as more.
  • You will figure out a way to get more closings. You are set up to win. You have the technology, the insights, and the mindset reinforced every week. You have the support here. You can't continue to operate as an employee and expect to make “Owner Money.” You can't make Boss money as an employee.
  • We both know you want to make more than an employee, so quit convincing yourself by doing everything yourself. You have to break that pattern. You need to concern yourself with generating more leads and marketing more. Every time you fail to do that you are telling yourself that you are not good enough. You may not say it directly that is how your mind is perceiving it, how it is processing it.
  • You cannot grow when you contract; when you contract yourself financially, you can't think of bigger ways to make money. Employee mindset. It is hard to break, and it took me many years, and I couldn't get out of debt, and I couldn't figure out a way to keep my employees. You fall into a scarcity mindset, and when you are there you lose your confidence, and when you lose the confidence, you tell yourself I don't know where my next deal is coming from.
Stop Doing Petty Employee SHIT!
  • If there is an opportunity to get an office, it changes your mind; it becomes a real business. When you get a transaction coordinator something switches in your mind; you are a real business, so stop sacrificing your most valuable asset, your time. You don't need to be doing the little, petty employee shit. YOU DON'T! Things won't change until you take control and claim that you are a business owner.
  • You need to proclaim that you are not limited like everyone else. If you want more, you will create more. It comes with intention, that is what it is about. When you do anything with intention, you will get what you are seeking. Stop holding on to the one transaction for dear life and let it go to your team so that you can move on to the next and the next.
  • I hope this is resonating with you because you deserve to create something better for yourself. The disconnect is that you want it, but you aren't taking the necessary actions; your actions always have to align with the wants. You say you are a small business owner, then act like one. If not then say you are a one-person show, you are happy with doing everything by yourself, admit it. Because if you say you are something and then don't live up to it, there is a gap, a lie there. When you live under lies, you can't be 100% fulfilled.
  • If you say you are a business owner than act like it; Market every day, make phone calls and schedule Open Houses when you get a deal to send it to your Transaction Coordinator. I hope this makes sense to you because if you are unhappy with your results, it's because your expectations are high and what you're willing to do is low. It will weigh on you; that is why you cannot find fulfillment. Are you a boss or not? Or are you a licensed employee?
  • If that is how you see yourself than say that and you will be less frustrated, you then have minimum standards, lower standards and it is easier to meet. Be a boss; you got into this business to operate as an owner to do that. When I did that, I got myself out of debt. I got tired of telling my kids they couldn't have things and cutting corners. We are here to give the next generation a greater advantage. I think we are all doing an excellent job of that. Let's not restrict ourselves to that; be a boss. Own it and operate like it.
  • You have systems; you have people behind you; how awesome would it be to tell your client that your Transaction Coordinator will be contacting them throughout the process as well. Your goal is for them to recommend you to all of their family and friends; do that by giving exceptional service.
  • I couldn't do what I do by myself. I don't care how good you are; you will never be able to do the things you want by yourself. Let's wrap our thought process around that and tell yourself that you're an owner; you're a boss. Tell yourself you have the systems and support and that you have a team behind you. Then live up to it. Be that person today, not next time, not next deal.
  • Make a decision today and then follow it up with action. Where have you held back? Where have you sacrificed your family in hopes of saving them money and telling them no? We all have been in the mindset of saving money instead of creating it. It's time to double down on yourself and invest in the right people knowing that there is no other way to continue to grow your business.
  • Making more money will solve all of your money problems. Be a boss, not an employee. It is just a flip of the switch in your mindset, flip the perspective to make more money, and stop worrying about saving it.
