Faced with defeat and challenges can make or break an athlete. Trained to
win and suddenly life happens, and bad decisions and choices defeat our mind long before our game. Having a mindset to ASK, SEEK and KNOCK can be the key to return yourself to GLORY. Remind yourself that you can win and your confidence will build and return you to that space of GLORY once more. Appreciate how far you've come and let that propel you forward to where you are meant to go.
Live From Las Vegas
  • I am Live this morning for Mindset Mastery from Las Vegas. We are here for a 3-day tournament with my daughter. It was a great thing to witness watching my daughter develop her skill set and dominate a position that she struggled for a time with. It reinforces that when we put our mind to something that we will achieve it.
  • I was also able to see the return to glory; words uttered by a commentator when Tiger Woods won the Masters. As he putt’s in his last ball, the crowd erupted with energy, and it was a long time coming for him. As Tiger finished, he walked over to his son and hugged him and his daughter and Mom. It was like watching a fairy tale unfold, a real-life movie where the guy had to overcome perseverance; most of it caused by his misjudgments. Tiger created a lot of chaos in his life, and it has been 11 years since he won a major tournament, 14 years since he won the Masters.
  • A lot of people wrote him off and for a good reason; he was out of his character operating outside of his integrity at times. The infidelity, surgeries, embarrassment, and shame he brought to his family. They aren't haters, but people are speaking about him on how he was showing up.
  • It's easy for us to say that we have haters or people are betting against us, but what are you showing them to the contrary? They have the right to their opinions, even those closest to us and we get angry. They are basing their opinion on your actions.
Return to GLORY
  • That is the reality that we need to bring it back on to ourselves. That is what Tiger did; people weren't against him; they were only going by what his actions were showing them. It brings us to the adage of ASK, and you will receive, SEEK, and you will find and KNOCK, and the door will be opened.
  • You have to be the one looking for the answers and taking action by knocking. You need to prepare yourself by asking mentally. This is what Tiger had to go through over the past years; going through a deep pit of consequences, shame, and chaos and persevere to where he is today.
  • One of the first things Tiger said when he won was he hoped his kids were proud of him. He didn't comment on shutting up his critics; he knew he was in the hole because of his actions. We can come back from mediocrity, bad choices, and decisions; you need to get unstuck from the stories you are telling yourself.
  • Maybe you aren't where you need to be with your family or funds, and you faced tragedy, or you are suffering the consequences of your actions. I know how that feels, and we all have a story that relates. We have a choice to turn things around or make them worse, and for many years Tiger made it worse.
  • There are things outside of our control and things directly in our control. As my business was collapsing and coming off the worst quarter of my career, no funds coming in and bills piling up; I could have taken actions to stop it, but I made it worse. I made choices that I regret, choices that could have killed others or myself; getting behind the wheel after a few drinks. Ending up in tent city, the worst point of my life; I made things worse.
  • You can return to glory, but it will take you understanding that the world revolves around those three phrases: ASK, and you shall receive, SEEK and you will find, KNOCK and the door will open. These are choices you have to make and not wishes that will turn things around.
  • I remember laying there unable to sleep, couldn't shut my eyes, I didn't know who was around me. But those are the realities of our choices. We can all return to GLORY. Tiger said in an interview a few weeks ago that he needed to remind himself how to win; he won over 80 times in his career, and he needed to remind himself how to win? We forget because we get caught in the day-to-day struggles, the current situation because the problem is so big; it is right up in our face staring us down causing us to believe that it is more significant than us.
  • We forget to realize that we have returned to glory time and time again. Whatever it is that you are facing, what will you do about it? You have been triumphant in the past and shown success; that's what it is all about, reminding ourselves how to win.
  • My daughter had to remind herself when she was plucked from her position, from being a center to being put into a brand new position. She struggled, but she reminded herself that she is an athlete, she is good and she is coachable. Now she is dominating that space. Coaches, parents, and teammates came up to her; she returned to GLORY. She knew if she put in the reps, she would return to GLORY.
Change Your Perspective
  • The vast majority of us bow down to our circumstances, to the obstacles; because there is a part of us, that feels inadequate. When you change that perspective and start to ask the right questions, things change. You become dominant and confident again. These stories are all around us; it's your story.
  • I want you to look at what happened to Tiger this weekend; watch the final putt that won him the tournament. Watch as others around him fell apart as his confidence grew. Individuals that were playing flawlessly started to unravel; Tiger reminded himself that he had been there before. You need to remind yourself that you have been here before; whatever the situation. It's time to get there.
  • Watch the emotion that Tiger feels, it was the same emotion when he won his first Masters, and he ran up to his Dad. Fast forward to this weekend, all these years later, and his son comes up to him and hugs him the same way. Return to Glory. I am not a big golf fan, but I am a fan of people that can show that perseverance and can win. Who has written you off? Is it you?
  • Maybe you lost yourself; how will you find yourself? Take time to remind yourself and ask yourself the right questions, then take the appropriate actions. You know you have been there before. Watch Tiger and let him inspire you to go after what you want today. Take a moment and appreciate how far you have come; and whatever the obstacle you can overcome.
