Being Present

CUSTOM JAVASCRIPT / HTML
Miyamoto Musashi is said to be the Greatest Warrior of all time. He was noted as saying,” If you know the way broadly you will see it in all things.” This means that we need to have the ability to be present and aware. I have lived my life in the past and the present, magnifying my good and bad behaviors to the people I have influenced. I have found that when I go at my day with an expectancy to succeed, I succeed at a high level. Having integrity in all that I do means that I do what I say I am going to do. How are you showing up? What are you magnifying to those around you? Focus on what you are doing right and wrong and take steps to move forward changing what needs to change in your behaviors and habits.
The Greatest Samurai
  • I've been challenging my mind lately, thinking back on people who have lived life at a high level. I researched a Samurai Warrior, Miyamoto Musashi, who has been recognized as the greatest warrior of all time who said," If you know the way broadly you will see it in all things."
  • That means to me that we need to have an ability to be present, having an awareness of our patterns and behaviors, not living too far into the future or the past. I noticed my reflection in the glass coming into the office today; I had my backpack, my lunch bag and my bottle of water.
  • About a year ago I took a selfie in the same position, ready to dominate the day and it made me think about who I am today and where my capacity is as a business owner, father and a leader. I thought about the patterns that created that, it was a series of event and behaviors that created to the powerful person I am today.
  • I can state that in comparison to just one person; myself four years ago, three years ago, one year ago, or 6 months ago. I am greater, more powerful today and I will be more so five years from now. I will be more conscious, more aware of what is going on, and my behaviors will be zoned into what works in my life.
  • As I have started to look at the chaos and dysfunction of yesteryear, I began to look at the patterns I was not aware of, thinking everything was outside of my control; it was lack of awareness and consciousness of my behaviors.
  • The most significant difference to who I was four years ago is that I am HERE now; I am present, take full responsibility for my actions now. As things that began to unravel in my life, it was the patterns of bad habits, that made it difficult to live with myself. I was prepared to walk away from everything I had created including my own family.
  • I went to countless self-help seminars and would get caught up in a feeling of euphoria thinking I had it all figured out, calling my wife and telling her that things were going to change, tears streaming down my eyes, time and time again. Two days later I would return to my same patterns. I felt great in specific environments and under certain circumstances, but then life happens.
  • Everything I said I was going to do, was a belief at surface level; it wasn't ingrained in me this lifestyle that was in my mind. I was under the false impression that if I could see it and believe it, I could be it. I was envisioning a marriage that works, a business that is possible, but yet it wasn't coming to fruition; I will tell you why. It was surface deep, and what was brewing below, it was distrust in myself. I couldn't reinforce the vision because I lacked the patterns to pull it off.
  • I didn't think it was possible for me, I would say all of these great things, it sounded great, but deep inside I knew I couldn't do it because I didn't trust myself. I was living in a life where I would say something and then not follow through on it. There was no integrity and therefore no foundation.
  • Millions of people flock to these seminars, yet only a small fraction of them change their lives. The issue is deep-rooted, deep seeded; it's in your soul; you know you can't pull it off. Lack of trust, you know it's only, and there is no integrity. Integrity is when you say you're going to do something and then you do it.
  • There is no way I could make these changes to my life last when there was no integrity in the foundation. Why? Lack of awareness in my behaviors and failure to take full responsibility for my actions.
What Are You Magnifying?
  • The only way to start to change is to reinforce the patterns of achieving; easier said than done. We have negative programming through either our personal experiences or it is already embedded in us through how we were raised. By watching our parents struggles, watching their marriage and dysfunctional patterns. How they either gave up or grew resilient and kept going. This is all learned behavior, by watching our number one influencers; our parents.
  • When we get to that point, we do what they did, how they handled stress, how they shut down, or how they only reached a certain level of success. These behaviors are ingrained into our heads, our subconscious and we repeat what we see. When we get close to greatness, we hit the ceiling and return to old patterns, because they are reinforced by what we saw with our parents.
  • Whatever your kids are seeing will be magnified in their lives, and you are the magnification of what you saw in your parents. How do you react when something doesn't go your way? Your kids will magnify that. How well do you take care of your body? Your kids will magnify that. How functional is your marriage? Magnification is what your offspring will do. I know it's hard to break patterns when that is all that we see; that is why awareness is so important in your life.
  • Be aware that if you are magnifying dysfunctional patterns, it is your responsibility to stop it, so you don't pass that on to your kids. Whatever your parents couldn't figure out, we have to deal with it; we are starting in the hole. It's hard to break out of that cycle because whatever you couldn't figure out, you are leaving it up to your kids to figure out. You just put them ten steps behind from where you started from.
  • This is why I couldn't change my behaviors after these self-help seminars because what I saw and what I thought was possible was at surface level. I have done some things to change that over the last few years. I have learned to trust myself, lead myself and identify the good and bad patterns.
  • Now there is an expectation that I will succeed because it is at the forefront of my thought process. I am growing and thriving. What we believe to be true will become a reality, but you have to believe it and have something to back it up, or it becomes temporary.
  • When we become aware of how we show in our marriage, our business and for our self, we can identify different things. If you have a pattern to reach a level of success and find a way to break it down it is relevant in another area of your life. The only way to break the cycle is to be consistent in other aspects of your life.
  • This is why I am committed to the Core 4; taking care of my body, feeding my brain positivity, being committed to my family, and doing something for my business every day; these are the patterns, the foundations making it more likely I will succeed and keep going.
  • If you can't maintain a routine, your life and results will be sporadic.IT is about identifying where you're at and understanding where we have negative programming. Where have we watched our parents struggle? Where have we watched them messed up? How did they handle stress? Are you reliving their patterns or are you doing something to improve the next generation? Awareness on a deep-rooted level, but you can't get that unless you can stick to your word and doing what you say you will do.
Tying It All In
  • This is the best way to make it happen. You have the vision for your business so now tie that in with something you have already achieved. That euphoric feeling when you won, that happiest moment.
  • When I was 18, I was in a situation where I was fighting for my life, and I almost bled out. That changes a person; traumatic events change us. You feel hopeless, defeated, we are at our lowest point. As I was recovering, we were driving down the I-10 and to me it was the most beautiful day, I paid attention to every aspect, the buildings even seemed to glow, and the sky was extra blue with big fluffy clouds.
  • I was present at the moment and appreciated my life at that very moment. Whenever we strive for something we see the beauty in it, we are elated and in the moment. If you start thinking about what you want for your business, tie it into that moment. It may take you closing your eyes and trying to remember. Was it that day you met that special someone? Was it the day you got the car you always wanted? The day you graduated from college? That moment you worked your ass off and achieved it, the odds were against you, and you pulled it off.
  • Put yourself in that place right now because it makes it real to our conscious; you've been there before. You have the vision, you have correlated it to that specific moment, now come back to the present; You understand there are specific patterns to get you there, and every time you don't take those actions think of that particular moment and let it drive you to the next step.
  • There is a great vision I have for this brokerage, and I have tied it into a great moment I have experienced. Things are going to change dramatically; I already see myself there; see myself walking through the doors. I can see people within this new office, and it is going to happen, because of the pattern I have of doing what I say.
  • That drives my actions forward and opens up my subconscious; I look for the opportunities to align me with that vision. As you continue to reinforce those visions with the ability to tie it into things you have already done, it becomes more tangible.
  • Maybe you go through the day without a vision. You have an appointment with a buyer, but no vision of the end result putting yourself at the mercy of whatever happens. If you are clear, you will be focused on finding your client the perfect home; they will open the doors and sign the contract. You are going to a listing appointment, and they will ask you great questions, and you will have the answers for them; having a vision and walking out with signatures.
  • We don't have enough vision because we are going through the motions. Your marriage isn't where you want it, but today you are going home and have an appreciation for my spouse, be present and put the phone down; but yet we expect it, and we have no actions to back up the vision. It is your responsibility to make sure you have a foundation of actions.
  • That is why I am so committed to the Core 4; I drink my green smoothie every morning, and I know whatever comes my way, I will continue to show up. I am passing that on to the next generation; my passion, my work ethic, my desire to win and be fulfilled. These are the patterns I want to continue for future generations.
Give Your Kids An Edge
  • What is the difference between who I am and who I was? Awareness. My ability to identify the things that don't work for me; the ability to trust myself and I expect to succeed every day. Where are you at? Do you give up every day because of a series of things not going your way? You conclude that today will be a bad day. What kind of day will you have today? What will be the thoughts at the forefront of your mind? Negative or positive ones? You decide it's your decision.
  • It's your job to be present, and identify the behaviors that aren't working for you. Unfortunately, the next generation will magnify it. It will be magnified by your spouse and anyone you have influence over. How do you show up to struggle? How do you handle stress? Do you shut down? That's the game.
  • What is your expectation every day? I expect to succeed, and I succeed at a high level. I am no longer looking at what is wrong with me; I am looking at what am I not doing that I said I would? The feelings fo defeat come when there is a disparity between what we said and what we are doing. You need to bridge the gap; those feelings are rooted for a reason.
  • Think about how you are feeling and what you are not doing. If you want to grow the most significant way to identify that is being present. It's a self -awareness, not to be motivated by others success, but being driven by identifying your behaviors and appreciated your life's journey that is perfectly orchestrated.
  • Regardless of how ugly we think our life was, it's about perspective. As I stare at my scar yesterday, where my arm is deformed, and I have so much appreciation for it. It set a foundation and changed the trajectory of my life. If it weren't for that, I would not be here; if it weren't for what you have been through you would not be here. The only way to appreciate that is through awareness of your actions, being present and realizing this is exactly who you USED to be.
  • It's your job to give your kids the edge; I don't want my kids to start where I started from; I want them many steps ahead. It doesn't matter how old your kids are, you can still change behaviors because you are still a massive influence in their lives. Live through integrity and do what you say you will do. Kids are not dumb, and at some point, they stop believing what you say; then they start watching what you do.
  • Become self -aware and take the steps necessary to hit your targets. We have it in our 12-week targets, and that will always be in the A.Z. & Associates DNA. The small reps get you the big ass results.
