When You Feel Good, You Do Good Things

CUSTOM JAVASCRIPT / HTML
I have pushed past the obstacles and challenges in my life. Why? Because when you expect big things, you need to prepare yourself for the big challenges. Many people stop progressing when it begins to get tough. They subside to temptation, mediocrity, and complacency; doing the simpler things. The topic today is, “When You Feel Good, You Do Good Things.” The reality is that you have to do good things to feel good. From that feeling of good comes greater things; it comes down to doing the right things.
You Asked for it; You Got it
  • We are officially entering into the third quarter; it was six months ago that we talked about a new level, a new standard. 2020 was the starting point of a new decade and a new standard for us moving forward. Many of us decided things would change, and within a few months into the year, our lives and economy unraveled. We have faced bigger challenges than anticipated.
  • What else could we expect? When we desire growth and expansion, we cannot get that without the challenges that follow suit; yet many people and agents feel victimized by the obstacles they must overcome. They don't realize we all asked for this, you asked for the challenges that they are facing. I asked for it and wanted to grow and see how far I could take my life; I wanted those challenges. When we get them, we quickly forget, and don't anticipate the level of difficulty. The challenges, loss of sleep, anxiety, stress, and duress. But you asked and prayed for it. You hoped and wished for it.
  • It is not time for us to wish and pray for it not to be this way, and that it was easier. We had that conversation last week. It's about rising to the challenge; with expansion comes greater obstacles, something we must overcome. Anytime you face this, you cannot sit back and wish it were different. We have to be thankful that we are alive to feel the pains and burdens. That we are in a position, knowing that it is for our betterment. After every great challenge and obstacle, we come out better; if we come out at all.
  • Many people stop progressing when it begins to get tough. They subside to temptation, mediocrity, and complacency; the simpler things. The topic today is, “When You Feel Good, You Do Good Things.” The reality is that you have to do good things to feel good. From that feeling of good comes greater things; it comes down to doing the right things.
Seize the Day
  • My family spent the last four days at the beach, and I felt thankful that I was in a position to see my children laugh and have fun. I love that Carla and I sat back, and there was no argument. Sometimes when we are in a place of disconnection from our home life, there is a stress that comes with it; we take it with us to our destination. We are either arguing or upset and stressed. I was so thankful we got along so great for the entire weekend. I was thankful that we were able to smile and experience this together, watching our girls have a blast. It was so fulfilling to me.
  • We prepared ourselves for it, not merely going into it without intention. We spoke to each other and declared we would have a great time. Be happy and enjoy the time we had together as a family; we know it is a glimpse of time and won't have it again. My daughters will never be 15 and 12 years old again. As time goes on, they will be different people as they grow and experience life. Their personalities will change, but I wanted to embrace who they are today and their smiles and hugs.
  • My daughter ran in after being in the pool for 8 hours; her skin was dark, and her face was sunburnt, and she said she wanted to do this all of the time. There was a lot to be thankful for. It starts with us; when you feel good, you do good things, which begins with you doing good first. If you don't feel good, consider that you may not be doing the good things daily; the right things.
  • Every day when I wake up, Carla, an early bird, is up doing the right things. She does her bible study, and she takes up to 2 hours, sometimes going over the bible seeing how it translates to her life. How her experiences are similar to what she is reading. She said something interesting and it falls in line with today's subject. It hit me like a ton of bricks and spoke to my soul. It made me realize that we have full control. I've known it all along, but we all need to be reminded of what we know. It isn't necessarily new information from me or anyone else; it reminds you of what you have experienced and what you already know.
  • We tend to forget our busyness. Our business gets challenging, the kids get out of control, and we forget these small things. Carla said, “Never will I start my day without first taking time to be thankful for my day.” I can't tell you how many times I have gotten up and gone through the motions, not realizing how thankful I am to be alive and experience whatever comes. Whether it is a painful moment or a happy one like I experienced the last four days. When you feel good, you will do good things.
The Conviction Within You
  • The easy thing to do is to wake up stressed about the challenges that face you; that is what the majority does. That is why there is so much dysfunction and bad decisions made daily. So many divorces, obesity, and financial duress. That is the easy thing; to stress over the challenges of our lives. If you spend time there repeatedly, in that place, hours upon hours, you may be taking the easy way out. Stressing over the difficulties of life is the easy way out. When there is an easy way out, there is an opening for temptation, mediocrity, and complacency. Shutting down and not rising to the challenges and giving in to the things you swore off. Overeating over-drinking; it takes a bigger man to take on that stress and say you will move forward. The situation won't victimize you.
  • There is a conviction that has been embedded within us, a focus we have, and we need to dig deeper. Proverbs 4:25-27 says, “May your eyes look forward, and your gaze be straight before you.” I can visualize what that says. I can imagine someone with that intense focus, staring into what they want to accomplish. We have all met those individuals, and sometimes we are those individuals. We wanted something so bad; nothing was going to take away that focus and frame. We were going to dominate, putting our stake in the ground, proclaiming, “This is me! This is where I am going!”
  • The verse continues,” May the path of your foot be balanced, and all of your ways be sure; do not swerve right or left. Remove your foot from evil.” I remember growing up and hearing that term, evil. I always felt like it was the devil, with the pitchfork, and he was on fire; it was evil, he was the boogeyman. The bible was taught to me, and I pushed it away, thinking I didn't need it. I understand evil from a different perspective now. It's not the depicted devil with horns, bright red and on fire. I understand evil in different ways. When the verses say not to swerve right or left, remove your foot from evil; I realize evil comes to us through temptation, mediocrity, and complacency. That is evil to you, to your life, to your family, business, and soul.
  • To give in to those temptations and to live a mediocre life. Being complacent because you think you have arrived. Thinking you can't deliver for your children, and your marriage. I understand that now and when I read these passages, I know they aren't talking about a red man on fire with horns; evil is all around us.
  • I know we have all been in a place of intense focus, and your job is to repeat that and understand that it is embedded within you. It is our responsibility to make sure we have goals and targets that we have set forth, not only for our business but for ourselves and our family. For your overall sense of purpose, that is your responsibility. “May your eyes look forward, and your gaze be straight before you.” Look in the mirror, and you have it within you.
  • I tell those who come through this brokerage that something will change within them if they show up, lean in, and do the work; something will change. I point out that it will be their brow, never realizing that it had already been written before us. “Your gaze be straight before you.” The gaze in your eyes will change, and there is a certainty that comes before you, a certainty that will take you where you want to go.
  • I have brought out the pictures showing where it was you started and where you are at now. You can see the brow change with certainty and confidence, realization, and perspective. Realizing that all the years before you have been playing small and now is the fresh start, the new beginning. To create the lifestyle you knew, realizing you could create it all along. “May the path of your foot be balanced, and all of your ways be sure.”
  • We can't complain about what is going on in our industry; there are not enough houses and multiple offers. I hear these complaints daily. You asked for it, and you are the one who wanted to grow and help more families. The moment a challenge arises, you complain that there isn't enough inventory and too many offers? Then be better, faster, wiser, learn to communicate, fight for your client and yourself. Don't complain, because all that does is invite more of the same. You will be outbid more often. You will be out-worked because you decided to make a noon appointment instead of 8 in the morning.
Rise to the Occasion
  • Don't complain, you asked for it; you can't get the growth you want without the challenges. Otherwise, merely settle on getting by, I think you will be happier. Or, you can rise and have your eyes look forward, and your gaze be straight before you. So you lose some deals, that doesn't mean you have lost. It means it wasn't the right house for your client; you keep your poise and composure, realizing that what you want is worth the difficulties. If you want a happy marriage, it is hard. You want to be fit and feel healthy. It is hard. Do you want to build a business? Welcome to the club, it is hard.
  • Many of you act like this is the first time this has happened. Rise to the occasion and stop complaining. Your clients came to you because they thought you could do the job, and now you are telling yourself that you can't. Way to pull a fast one on your clients; that is an injustice. Or, you can be thankful for the challenges and allow your gaze to be before, not swaying left or right, removing your foot from evil.
  • None of this is easy. Temptation, mediocrity, and complacency is a daily fight. Complaining about the difficulties is the easy way. Allow the other 40,000 agents to complain about the pandemic and how it has affected their business. Some of them are continuing to buy into that story, not realizing there are 8-10 offers on every property. They haven't even tried because of the things they have heard because one client told them they were going to hold off. Your job is to show up powerfully, reminding yourself that you asked for this. When we set our targets in January, you asked for it, and now you are ungrateful. The opportunities are presenting themselves, and you are complaining; we have to change our perspective.
  • Maybe we should be thankful for the day and not merely start our day. When you feel good, you will do good things; that begins with you in the morning. It begins with your conviction and purpose. Remind yourself by looking back at your experiences. When have you had the extreme purpose and focus in your life? Tap into that emotion and experience and bring it to this day; we are only halfway through the year. You will have to decide how you will end this year, 2020. Will you be like the masses and say it was the most challenging year ever? This will be our breakout year because I said it was, and I am a man of my word. I also understand that when I want big things, even bigger challenges will come my way. So far, I am batting 1,000. One way or another, I will overcome the obstacle and keep swinging and keep hitting. Repeatedly.
  • Will 2020 be your year? You have to decide or subside. 6 months into this, and I feel good about the progress. We have made some amazing decisions amongst all of this uncertainty. I have never been more certain, and that is a powerful way to live. It is a decision that you have to make daily; you can be certain in uncertain times. That begins with you every morning. Sticking to the routines and habits that are proven to work. Take care of yourself, and be thankful for what you do have and the challenges you have already overcome. Anything less discredits everything that you have accomplished. This game is bigger than you; your feelings, triggers, and so many people depend on you. When you are falling short, it is selfish, and it is giving in to the temptations, mediocrity, and complacency.

  • Take a minute today and look in the mirror, deep into your own eyes. When was the last time you looked deeply into the mirror? Not to simply check your hair and makeup.I want you to look into the mirror, deep into your eyes, and do two things. Tell yourself how proud you are of you. That you are a resilient individual, and although some obstacles have thrown you, you are still here. Then tell yourself to continue on the path that you have set forth on. Remind yourself of what you said you would accomplish, and you already have what is required to get there.
  • It is our job to convey to our clients what the market is like. They might get outbid and make a decision faster than anticipated. It is your job to guide them in the right direction and keep that poise. Never will I start my day without first being thankful for my day. It is such a powerful statement that is often forgotten. We need that gratitude first thing to take on the challenges that we will face.
  • It is tough out there, and it can be demotivating. If you don't keep your poise, if you don't keep your targets in mind, your clients will feel it. They might go somewhere else or decide not to purchase or move forward. If you set them up for what is to come, they are more likely to see it through. Talk to them and let them know what is going on in today's market. You might get 8-10 offers right now, but many agents are giving up and waiting until later in the day. Right now, it is about timing. If your client likes a home, be one of the first ones to show it. Communicate with the other agent, asking them what they need from you to make it happen. Do they want 30 people coming through their client's homes? Especially right now. Give them what they want upfront and call and remind and lead them. Be the first to be out there, and that is all about timing, urgency, and intention.
  • There is nothing new that you will learn from life, just a different way to process it. Everything that has needed to be said has been said. Now, it is a matter of being reminded and taking actions upon those reminders. Have a great week. We have a big announcement coming up with a date. It's finally time for announcement number three, so I look forward to hearing from you. “May your eyes look forward, and your gaze be straight before you. May the path of your foot be balanced, and all your ways be sure. Do not swerve left or right; remove your foot from evil.” That is the temptation, mediocrity, and complacency.
